Contactless Will Service

To comply with government guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are providing a contactless wills service.

These are truly challenging times. However, in the past week we have had numerous enquiries from clients wanting Will changes for themselves or other family members; or more likely finally making that Will they have put off for so long.

However, in line with H M Government guidelines we are now working behind closed doors for the protection of clients and staff. Before long, it may well be that everyone of us who can, will be working from home. Meanwhile the phones are covered during normal office hours and mail is still being received and sent out.

How will making a remote will work?

Firstly, please call us on 01474 32 56 78 or email: reception@kingprior.co.uk.

When you get in touch please provide the following:

  • Your requirements
  • Your full name
  • Your address
  • Your preferred phone number
  • Your preferred email address

We will then follow up with either a phone call or second email.

Checking the requirements of your will remotely

The next stage will involve emailing or posting you a Will questionnaire to complete and return.

Once we have that back, we will call you to check your exact requirements and give our advice as to the matters to be covered within the Will. In order to still be compliant, albeit on a short-term basis, we will preferably need to physically see you. So ideally the advice call stage will happen via video call (on Whats App, Skype, Zoom, Face time or similar), depending on your own level of technological skills and equipment.

Such contact will assist complying with identification and ensuring you are not being pressurised by anyone to make or change the Will.

Even if you can only speak by ordinary telephone we will cover those issues later by getting you to come to see us once normal service is resumed, when you can see a member of staff for a short validation appointment.

Witnessing your will

Once the Will has been drafted and approved by you, we will post the original to you with an instruction sheet regarding witnessing criteria, in anticipation that nearby friends or neighbours can assist.

Incidentally such witnesses do not need to read the content of your Will - they just have to verify seeing you make your signature.

High demand for contactless wills anticipated

We anticipate high demand for this service and may have to initially limit this to existing clients responding to this posting or their elderly relatives who they wish to introduce.

To cope with that demand however, we are enlisting the help of another local solicitor who specialises in Wills. On a consultancy basis they will help with the phone call and Will drafting stages.

If however, you already have Wills and are therefore fully protected, we wish you a safe and healthy few months ahead.
